Textiles

This piece imitating a postage stamp was part of a project about the English monarchy and also made to prove what you can do with simple machine embroidery technique. The silhouette of the queen had to be projected onto the fabric, then hand painted with dye and the rest was relatively straightforward (except for the first machine overheating and breaking down). The colours were inspired by an Andy Warhol print of the Queen.

The inspiration for this postage stamp textile piece was an Andy Warhol print of the queen, done in bright, bold colours. I painted it with thick fabric dye and then projected an image of the queen onto the fabric and marked it with chalk - the rest is all machine embroidery (the dots are made by reversing slightly)
I think I could not list off textiles pieces I have done without mentioning this recently completed scarf - after coming across a crocheted scarf my the 'Sophie Diggard' company I thought I would save money (but definitely not time) by making one by myself. As a launch point I had to teach myself to crochet. 3 years and 220 little crocheted shreddies later I was ready to stitch them together and complete the mission. I'm still not sure how one can make a living out of it but nevertheless I'm satisfied with the outcome.
